Terry found not guilty

2012-07-13 16:28

London - Former England captain John Terry was found not guilty Friday of racially abusing rival footballer Anton Ferdinand.

Chief Magistrate Howard Riddle cleared the 31-year-old Chelsea skipper at the end of a five-day trial at Westminster Magistrates Court in London.

Terry, wearing a white shirt with a grey suit and tie, left court without speaking to media or supporters waiting outside.

He was accused of branding Queens Park Rangers player Anton Ferdinand a "fucking black cunt" during a match between Chelsea and QPR on October 23 last year.

Terry denied committing a racially aggravated public order offence. He told the court that he was sarcastically repeating words he thought Ferdinand had said to him.

The charge was brought by the Crown Prosecution Service, the state prosecutors in England and Wales.

Alison Saunders, the chief crown prosecutor for London, said in a statement: "The very serious allegation at the heart of this case was one of racial abuse.

"It was our view that this was not 'banter' on the football pitch and that the allegation should be judged by a court.

"The chief magistrate agreed that Mr Terry had a case to answer, but having heard all of the evidence he acquitted Mr Terry of a racially aggravated offence.

"That is justice being done and we respect the chief magistrate's decision."

Had Terry been found guilty, he could have been fined up to 2,500 ($3,850, 3,150 euros).

Totaly wrong decision, what message does that send to the other players in the EPL especially the black players who have given their all to this league, absolutely gutted.

      Nicholas - 2012-07-13 16:46

Tired of blacks complaining about so called racial abuse. Always winging. If Ferdinand called Terry a effing white so & so, do you honestly think Terry would run off & lay charges. Bloody whimps !

      Alfjoe - 2012-07-13 18:02

There were statements from 18 players, and some of those players are black, all saying the same. Remember it is nt a kangaroo court mr pierre. He is nt guilty!

All the blacks all over the world have a chip on the shoulder. It is so easy to cry race, and white people are so scared of offending them, but the other way round it is okey. If you say somebody is a white fool thats ok but do not say he is a black fool. Off to court you go.

You obviously are not aware of that log on your shoulder. Just read your own post here.

Lesson learned, mr captain. Behave next season...you've given us Blues enough drama to last a career

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-07-13 20:35

Uhm, he was judged innocent of the intent, not the action itself. The lesson is thus for him to not act that way again. Pretty basic English

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-07-14 20:03

You are an idiot. Action-saying the words, as he claims he did. intent-not racial abuse but sarcasm, as he claims. lesson - not to speak like that on the field again to avoid aother trial. You can't seriously be that bloody thick.

im still waiting for someone to racially abuse me, i wont run to the HRC , i would f@#$% him/her up then racially abuse him/her. i hate it when my people run to the press whenever some racial thing is said to them. if i said something rude abt a black guy's mom he wont go to the press he will beat the crap out of me . so we need to treat all racists like that please please . an eye for an eye is what i promote all due respect to Martin Luther king Jnr and Mahatma Ghandi but their philosophies dont work , im Following Malcom X 's philosophy
