Rome - Italian international midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini on Thursday joined English Premier League side Sunderland in a €9 million deal from Serie A champions Juventus, the Italian club's coach Antonio Conte said.
"I'm not happy about Giaccherini's departure but with this €9 million we can take Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente," said Conte in reference to funding the deals for the club's two high-profile new strikers.
Giaccherini rarely figured last season for Juventus but was part of the Italy squad at the Confederations Cup where he scored twice.
The 28-year-old will link-up with fellow Italian, Paolo Di Canio, the coach of Sunderland.
Meanwhile, Juventus have signed 25-year-old international central defender Angelo Ogbonna from Turin rivals Torino for a fee reported to be in the region of €15 million.
