Strootman deal edging closer

Cape Town - Win and Manchester United fans love you, lose and a transfer to Manchester United in January looks probable - that is the dilemma facing midfielder Kevin Strootman on Wednesday evening.

The Telegraph report that Kevin Strootman could endear himself to the red half of Manchester on Wednesday evening.

Strootman's full recovery from a serious knee injury has increased the speculation that the Dutch midfielder will be eventually make his long-awaited move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are still desperately seeking a midfielder of Strootman's quality and Louis van Gaal is an admirer of the Roma player.

Van Gaal was quoted as saying he would "wait and see how he comes back" from the cruciate ligament injury before making a move for Strootman.

Strootman has made three appearances for Roma since his return to the playing field in November.

In November, Sport24 reported that Strootman had "shaken hands" on the move but the timing of the much-anticipated transfer may depend on the result of Roma's Champions League fixture against Manchester City.

Strootman has been silent on the prospective move and has been booed by sections of Roma's fans since making his return in November.
