Cape Town - Raheem Sterling has given Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers another headache after rejecting the club's latest contract offer.
The Guardian report that Liverpool and Sterling are “nowhere near any agreement” on a new contract for the English star.
Sterling has been the Anfield side's star performer for the last twelve months but is struggling to commit his future to the club.
The 20-year-old winger has two more years left on his current deal which sees the club pay him £30 000-a-week in wages.
Liverpool have reportedly offered to more than double those wages but Sterling has deemed the £70,000-a-week plus bonuses insufficient.
Sources quoted by the English newspaper say that the latest offer was “nowhere near acceptable”.
This is the latest blow for the under-pressure Rodgers, who saw his Liverpool side tumble out of the Champions League at the group stage on Tuesday evening.
Liverpool brought Sterling to Anfield for just £600 000 in 2010 when they lured him from the Queens Park Rangers’ academy.
Sterling is in line to play his 100th game for Liverpool against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The match kicks off at 15:30.
