Liverpool starlet, Raheem Sterling, has been charged for assault.
The charge stems from an incident that took place in a nightclub last year, a few weeks before Sterling’s 18th birthday.
It is alleged that Sterling assaulted a 27-year-old woman, who suffered “slight” facial injuries.
England international Sterling, who has sprung to prominence under Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, denies the charge.
His lawyer appeared in court on his behalf on Friday morning to refute the allegations.
Solicitor Mick Hogan says that Sterling’s Liverpool career has not been negatively impacted by his run-in with the law, and that the Reds have been “very supportive” of Sterling in this matter.
Sterling was an unused substitute when Liverpool battled to a 2-2 draw at Arsenal this week, and is in line to play against champions Manchester City on Sunday.
