Spurs step up Federico Fazio pursuit

Cape Town - With Michael Dawson on his way out of White Hart Lane to join rivals Hull City, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking to strengthen his defensive back-line.

According to Sky Sports, Sevilla sporting director Monchi claims Spurs are willing to meet the release clause in Federico Fazio's contract and the centre-back could be on his way to London in no time.

Sevilla were hoping to keep their 27-year-old captain, but cannot compete with the wages on offer in the English top flight.

"Two months ago we talked about his renewal, but it was not possible. When an English team appears interested in one of our players it is difficult because they can multiply player salaries," Monchi said.

"It seems that Tottenham is willing to pay the [release] clause."

Argentine defender Fazio has clocked up 148 appearances for Sevilla during his seven-year spell in Andalusia.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
