Johannesburg - Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has revealed his admiration for Steven Pienaar, who could make a "great free transfer".
The South African international is out of contract at Everton in six months' time, which has attracted interest from a host of suitors, including Spurs.
Media reports suggest the London club are weighing up a £1.5m January offer for Pienaar but, with the playmaker available for free in the English summer, Redknapp might stall on the deal.
"If he doesn't sign a contract [with Everton], he'll be a great free transfer for someone at the end of the year, if he doesn't stay at Everton," said Redknapp on Wednesday.
"He still belongs to Everton, so it's a difficult one.
"They are still trying to keep him. We'll wait and see what happens."
