Spurs after Alderweireld

Cape Town - Tottenham Hotpsur will continue their battle to sign defender Toby Alderweireld from under the noses of Southampton.

The Evening Standard report that the London club's chairman will fly to Spain to hold talks with Atletico Madrid.

The 26-year-old Belgian defender spent last season on loan at Southampton, with Ronald Koeman still attempting to make that move permanent.

Southampton still have first option on a transfer for Alderweireld but his Spanish club can buy themselves out of that clause for £1.5 million.

Atletico Madrid will now hold talks with Spurs and are set to demand £10 million for Alderweireld's signature.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to bolster his defence and a move for Alderweireld could see an all-Belgian centre-back pairing at White Hart Lane next season.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
