Southampton keen on Serie A star

Cape Town - Southampton boss Ronald Koeman continues to rebuild his squad and has identified Lazio midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez as a key signing.

Lazio midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez could be on his way to Southampton for £8 million according to the Mirror.

Ronald Koeman has brought in seven new faces to the English Premiership club but Koeman stil lwants to Alvaro Gonzalez Southampton to his 2014/15 squad.

Koeman wants to bring in Gonzalez to bolster his midfield options as well as provide cover as a makeshift right back.

Koeman refused to rule out singing further players during this window and said: "We are still looking to sign one or two more players including a winger."

The 29-year-old Uruguayan was a key figure for his national side during the World Cup in Brazil where he featured in all four of Uruguay's matches.

Gonzalez has been with Lazio since 2010 and has become a key figure in the side.
