Rooney, 27, returned to action for the Red Devils when he came on as a second-half substitute against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

"You obviously need that sharpness," Rooney told the goal.com website.

"I haven't had that many training sessions with the first team because they have been away.

"I might be lacking that bit of sharpness but hopefully that will come. I need to try and get a few more games in.”

United were 4-1 victors on the day courtesy of the in-form Robin Van Persie and the England striker, Danny Welbeck, who grabbed a brace each with Rooney assisting both second half goals.

United’s next game is at home against Chelsea next Monday.

Kick-off is scheduled for 21:00 SA time.
