Rooney blow for England

London - England captain Wayne Rooney is a major doubt for Friday's Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Estonia after he missed training for a second straight day due to an ankle injury.

The Manchester United striker sat out Tuesday's training session at St George's Park and was again absent on Wednesday morning.

Rooney picked up the knock to his ankle in United's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

Despite his status for Friday's match at Wembley being in question, Rooney will remain with the England squad this week but it remains to be seen whether he will travel to Lithuania for the Three Lions' final qualifier next Monday.

Rooney is expected to attend Friday's game against Estonia, even if he is not fit to be included in the squad, in order to collect his commemorative golden boot for breaking Bobby Charlton's scoring record.

Rooney eclipsed Charlton's 49-goal mark with a penalty in a 2-0 win against Switzerland last month and will be presented with the boot by the 1966 World Cup winner before kick-off.

England have already qualified for next year's finals in France, having recorded eight wins from eight matches so far in Group E.
