Roma want Reds defender

Cape Town - After bringing in Ashley Cole in the summer, Roma are targeting Liverpool's out-of-favour defender Glen Johnson for a January move.

The Daily Star link Roma with a £2 million move for England right back Glen Johnson.

Roma will move for Glen Johnson, who's contract at Liverpool expires in the summer, in January according to reports in Italy.

Johnson reportedly earns £100,000-per-week which may yet prove to be a stumbling block for the Italian club while Liverpool are unwilling to offer the defender a new deal on the same wages.

Johnson has spent five seasons with Liverpool but looks like this one will be his last with the Anfield club.

The defender, who has been criticised by the club's fans in recent times, has made over 140 appearances for Liverpool.
