Rodgers: Agger is still in our plans

Cape Town - Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Daniel Agger is still a part of his plans for next season despite the club's pursuit of Southampton defender Dejan Lovren.

Agger, who had a difficult time last season - making only 16 league starts and having to watch from the bench as Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel were chosen as the preferred centre-back partnership, has been linked with a move away from Anfield after he made it clear that he would not "play second fiddle" at the Merseyside club.

Despite Agger's statement, Rodgers is determined to keep him at the club and insists he is part of his plans for Liverpool next season.

"Agger is one of the best players we have. He has been unlucky because he has been plagued by injuries last season," Rodgers told the Daily Star.

"He is a good player, he is experienced and we can use that in the upcoming season."He went on to add that the Danish 29-year-old defender has signed a contract with the club until 2016, and he expects him to honour the agreement.
