Cape Town - Liverpool's hopes of signing France striker Karim Benzema have been dashed after the 26-year-old signed a new contract with current club Real Madrid.
Benzema joined the Spanish club five years ago and has scored a record of 111 goals in 235 games for Los Blancos.
The former Lyon player’s new deal reduces the chances of Falcao moving to Spain, which may in turn see other clubs, particularly Liverpool, target the wantaway Colombian striker.
Liverpool have also been linked with a move for PSG striker Ezequiel Lavezzi, in an effort to try and fill the gap in the forward line left by Luis Suarez.
