Cape Town - Spanish midfielder Asier Illarramendi is the target of an audacious move by English Premier League side Liverpool, according to reports in Spain.
MARCA report that Liverpool have tabled a €22 million offer for the Real Madrid midfielder.
Sources indicate that the club are happy with the offer and it is up to new manager Rafa Benítez to decide whether Illarramendi has a future at the club.
Illarramendi joined Real Madrid in 2013 from Real Sociedad for €32 million.
The 25-year-old midfielder has struggled to cement his place in the starting lineup for Los Blancos and could now find himself departing Spain for England.
"Illarra" has made 90 appearances in all competitions in his Real Madrid career, scoring just three goals.
