Rafael stays at Old Trafford

London - Manchester United's young Brazilian defender Rafael has signed a contract extension, the Premier League club said on Monday.

The 18-year-old right back, who has made 24 appearances in his debut season, has agreed a deal to keep him at Old Trafford until 2013.

"His enthusiasm and the adventurous way he plays is typical of a Manchester United player and we are delighted that he has signed a new contract," manager Alex Ferguson told the club website (www.manutd.com).

"It has been an exciting time for me and I want to be part of this for a long time," Rafael said.

Rafael's twin brother Fabio also plays for United, as a left back.
