Cape Town - Robin Van Persie scored a brace and was denied by the woodwork twice as he returns to match fitness following a lengthy injury spell.

According to the Manchester United website, Robin van Persie "looked in great shape" as Manchester United beat Fulham Under 21s 4-1 win at Fulham.

Van Persie scored in the 13th minute and again in the 80th minute and was replaced shortly thereafter.

Although he did take a couple of painful-looking falls, van Persie showed no ill effects and was happy to sign autographs for a number of spectators after being withdrawn.

His second outing for Warren Joyce's team would appear to signal he is ready to push for a return to the starting line-up in Saturday's clash with West Brom at Old Trafford after coming off the bench at Everton last Sunday.
