Cape Town - Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of becoming the new Tottenham manager after it has emerged the Saints boss is currently in advanced talks with Spurs, according to the BBC website.
Spurs have been without a manager since releasing Tim Sherwood at the conclusion of the Premier League season. Pochettino took over at Southampton in January 2013, when he replaced Nigel Adkins, and led them to eighth place in the Premier League.
Spurs had been heavily linked with Ajax boss Frank de Boer and newly appointed Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal but it now appears that Pochettino is the likely candidate to take the reigns at Spurs.
The Argentine's future at the Saints appears in doubt. He has just one year remaining on his Southampton contract and has doubts over Southampton's ability to keep many of the club's stars.
Under Pochettino, Southampton had their highest finished in the Premier League (eighth) while also scoring the most goals in their Premier League history (54).
Another highlight was a record four English players being called up to the England squad during the year with Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert making England's final 23-man squad for the Soccer World Cup.
