Cape Town - Gerard Pique has politely rejected the advances of Manchester United while talk of a Chelsea move gathers momentum.
The Daily Star report that Chelsea are being linked with a sensational bid to bring Spain and Barcelona star Gerard Pique back to the English Premiership.
The former Manchester United player has confirmed that he is not interested in a move back to the club he left in 2008.
“I left a lot of friends there and was really happy there, even if I
didn’t play as much as I wanted to." said Pique.
“But I’ve always said I want to retire here and, if possible, stay here all my career.
“At this moment I’m not thinking about leaving, and I’m really happy if it’s true that United want me... but I want to stay.
“I’m a Barcelona fan, I have been since I was a kid, and I want
to stay.”
Pique's latest comments are not putting Jose Mourinho off as the Portuguese manager is reportedly interested in making a January move for the 27-year-old defender.
Mourinho is interested in signing a long term successor to 33-year-old club stalwart John Terry.
Chelsea are willing to offer £24 million for his services.
Pique, under pressure following a poor showing in El Clasico, has made 274 appearances for the Catalan giants since his arrival in 2008.
