Pienaar nears Toffees exit

Johannesburg - Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar is set to leave the English Premier League outfit during the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old has refused to commit his long-term future to the club with UEFA Champions League contenders Tottenham Hotspur mooted as potential suitors.

Toffee's mentor David Moyes recently revealed that he doesn't expect to hold on to the former Borussia Dortmund and Ajax player, whose contract at Goodison Park expires in April 2011.

And while Pienaar insists he is focussed on the task at hand, his failure to extend his deal could see him get snapped up when the transfer window opens.

He told Sky Sports News: "I am still focused on staying at Everton, this season is not over yet, so anything can happen.

"In football anything can happen, it can change tomorrow, today, no-one knows.

"The media in England is quite big and everyone can say what they want. I am just happy at Everton and I want to focus on my game."
