Johannesburg - British authorities have withdrawn the warrant for arrest that was issued for Bafana Bafana captain, Steven Pienaar.
The warrant was issued on Monday after the Everton midfielder was found guilty of speeding back in October and failed to show up for his court date. However, according to a source close to the player, the warrant has been withdrawn after it was revealed that it was a case of miscommunication that meant the 30-year-old did not know about his court date.
Rob Moore, the midfielder’s agent, insisted on Tuesday that the Everton man would be fully co-operative with the police and a source close to the player has now explained that, after Pienaar’s lawyer spoke to the police, the matter has been cleared up.
The car in which Pienaar was driving was bought during his time in London and registered it to his house in the English capital, therefore the fines were sent to his old address meaning that the former Ajax man was unaware of his court date.
After his lawyer dealt with the authorities in England, it was decided that the warrant should be withdrawn and they have set a new court date, in a fortnights time.
