Obinna double sinks Blackpool

London - Victor Obinna scored twice on Wednesday to lead West Ham to a 3-1 win at Blackpool in the Premier League and take his tally to five goals in four days.

West Ham rose from last to 18th with the win, secured by Obinna in the 24th and 44th and Robbie Keane’s 37th-minute goal on debut since moving from Tottenham on Monday.

Obinna scored a hat-trick in West Ham’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Charlie Adam pulled a goal back in the 42nd, finding the net direct from a corner past an unsighted goalkeeper Robert Green after West Ham striker Frederic Piquionne had missed his kick at the near post.

The Hammers are level on 24 points with Birmingham, just above the relegation places.

“It was a very important win. Every game now is very important for us,” West Ham manager Avram Grant said.

“We wanted to make one step today, we have finished the second third of the league and are starting the last third. We wanted to continue to play our football and pick results up.

“I am very pleased with how we attacked in the first half—we created a lot of chances. In the second half, we defended very well, which we didn’t do in the last games we were winning against Everton and Birmingham.”

Blackpool have now lost six of their past seven Premier League games, falling to 13th place, only four points above the drop zone.

“To be honest I can’t wait to get away from home,” Blackpool manager Ian Holloway said. “All these things are happening in front of our own fans and it is not nice. “So, let’s get away, play at Everton on Saturday and see if we can stop the rot.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
