Cape Town -Die hard
Newcastle fan Liam Sweeney, who was on his way to watch his beloved team play
in a pre-season tour before the Malaysian Airline Flight MH17 on which he was
flying was tragically shot down, was laid to rest today.
According to reports, Liam's family were joined at the funeral by fellow Newcastle fans, as well as the entire Magpies squad, led by manager Alan Pardew.
Liam was described as being a "gentle giant" and a family man with a love for football. A Newcastle shirt and scarf were laid on his coffin to mark his love for the football club, as a poem was read out in tribute to him.
“If the Toon were playing you were there, win or lose through bad and good, Newcastle United were in your blood.”
Newcastle United play Aston Villa away on Saturday afternoon as they look for a victory that would no doubt make Liam Sweeney smile from above.
