Cape Town - Gary Neville insists Liverpool need to spend even more money if they are to return to the summit of European football, reports Football411.
The Anfield club were recently eliminated from the Champions League at the hands of Basel, making their return to Europe’s elite competition a brief one.
The Red’s managed an impressive second-place finish under Brendan Rodgers last season, but are struggling to replicate that form this campaign.
The next game for the Merseysiders is a trip to Old Trafford to face a resurgent Manchester United, and former United player Gary Neville has criticised Liverpool’s transfer policy after spending more than a £100 million during the last transfer window.
"That’s not even touching the sides of what the big European teams do, and are spending when they’re really going for it." Neville said of Liverpool’s off-season outlay, which included money earned from the sale of star striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
"If they measure themselves in terms of a club winning the Champions League, then they need to spend like one."
