Negredo: I don't want to leave

Cape Town - Spanish hit-man Alvaro Negrado has denied that he wants to leave Manchester City and has confirmed that he is happy at the club.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move back to his homeland after just a single season at the Etihad.

Negredo, doing a Q & A on the club's website, denied he was homesick and said: "I don't want to leave City. I'm very happy and very settled here. I had a difficult end to the season and that's why there has been a lot of talking, but I've been very happy here from the first day I arrived."

Negredo had a good first season in England despite his form dipping after suffering a shoulder injury. He scored 23 goals in all competitions for the champions of England.

His injury and failure to return to any sort of form ultimately cost him any chance he had of joining the Spain squad in Brazil for the Soccer World Cup.

It is understood that City are willing to reject any advances for the striker after Atletico Madrid were reported to be keen on acquiring his services after Diego Costa's departure to Chelsea.
