Nani 'not going anywhere'

Singapore - Manchester United winger Nani has insisted he is "not going anywhere" despite the arrival at Old Trafford of England international Ashley Young and reported interest from abroad.

The 24-year-old Portuguese said he would fight for his place with the Premier League champions after Young, who also plays on the wing, completed a transfer from Aston Villa worth about $25-32 million last week.

"Of course, I'm not going anywhere," Nani told the Straits Times during a visit to Singapore.

"There's going to be more competition for places and, at a club like United, you always have to be on your toes to stay hungry for trophies."

Young's arrival has sparked intense speculation about Nani's future after he was linked with moves to Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

He said he has not discussed his role next season with manager Alex Ferguson, who is rebuilding the team after their 3-1 mauling by Barcelona in last month's Champions League final.

"No. Why should I?" he said, according to Singapore's MyPaper on Tuesday, adding that Young's signing should bolster the team.

"The club know what's good for the team when they signed him," Nani said.

not sure why saf needs all that wingers? it is a long season i know but dont they have any youngsters coming through from the academy? besides the ones they bought?

Blue nose doesn't need all those wingers, he's just looking over his shoulder at KK and wants to try and stop the Liverpool revolution, too late bluey, it's going full steam ahead, you can't buy every player Liverpool has in their site, for one thing most of them would prefer to join the mighty Liverpool instead of the manure heap.

      Oops sight not site

Bob: "For one thing most of them would prefer to join the mighty Liverpool" Hahahahaha! Keep the jokes coming! I seriously needed a laugh today! So far how many players have signed since the end of the season for the mighty Liverfools? Some over priced guy from Sunderland i think!

      Bob - 2011-06-28 14:55

Man U, please I keep trying to educate you but gee it's a slow process, the Liverpool way is to identify a player that has the right mentality and ability to fit into the squad, we don't just rush out and buy names names names like some Coo Girl, mind you I think Utd applied that logic when they signed Rooney, his mentality fits right in with the Utd way, also he does have ability.

Have you not heard of Paul Pogba, Tom Cleverley or potentially Englands next superstar in the making - Ravel Morrison? @ScumBob the reason K@K got Henderson is 'cos we already have a better player in Cleverley for 20m pounds less.

      Man U - 2011-06-28 16:15

Bob: 35mil for Carrol? 20mil for Henderson? Who you developing again? As for Rooney, you know he was a bargain! So again, show me one Liverpool player who was bought and is now worth more than he was bought for! And don't tell me Torres! He has to be the most over priced player ever where only fools like Roman would pay such an amount!

      Bob - 2011-06-28 16:15

Harold, you are awake, err no I've never heard of any of those dudes, are they part of your youth team, the same one that we finished ahead of in the youth league, word has it Liverpool have the best youth academy in the World along with Barcelona, now I'm obliged to believe that.

      Harold - 2011-06-29 10:59

Bob Have you heard of Scott Wootan? google him and you will see he left Anfield to join the United academy because Rafa kept the youngsters away from the first team. At United he found there was a greater chance of them interacting with the stars.
