Monaco keeping tabs on Wenger

Cape Town - Mega-rich Ligue 1 outfit Monaco are pondering a move to bring Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger back to the club.

The Daily Mail report that Monaco have identified former manager Arsene Wenger as the man to lead them to European glory.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has confirmed the club's ambitions to play at the top level of European football.

"Our ambition is to be one of the clubs that plays regularly in the Champions League." said Vasilyev.

Monaco officials continue to stay in contact with Wenger with reports suggesting that Wenger spoke to the club as recently as August.

Wenger, who was at Monaco from 1987 and 1994, is still well thought of at the French club with the feelings mutual according to Vasilyev.

"For Monaco he is part of our history, part of our heritage."

"He is doing an amazing job.

"I don't know if one day he will want to come back, but we keep a very good relationship.

"Last time we exchanged was during the Emirates Cup. He keeps a strong affection for Monaco."
