Johannesburg - Portsmouth captain Aaron Mokoena is expected to rejoin the rest of his team-mates after being given extra time off following a tough last season for Pompey and the FIFA World Cup.
Widespread speculation linked the Bafana Bafana captain with a move away from the club that was relegated from the English Premiership to the first division at the end of last season.
It now seems that Pompey, who are looking to regain their status in the elite league, will hold onto Mokoena for the new season.
Portsmouth coach Steve Cotterill, who's hoping to hold onto Nigerian international Kanu, told British website The News, "There'll be some developments on this week. If there is any chance we can keep him (Kanu) here I'd be delighted with that. We've got Aaron Mokoena to add to things, too."
Pompey open their campaign in the English Championship with a fixture against Coventry on Saturday.
