Messi still the world's most valuable player

Cape Town - A new study has confirmed Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi as the most valuable player in the world.

The Argentina international added another Champions League winner's medal to his CV on Saturday and, according to the study by CIES, is more than €100m more valuable than the next most expensive player.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard, who had a phenomenal season with Chelsea, has been risen above Cristiano Ronaldo to second place.

The report suggests that "Footballers with the highest transfer values generally play in competitive teams, are active full internationals, play in attacking positions, have long-term contracts and are under 27 years of age."
