Martinez keen on Maloney

Cape Town - Wigan Athletic are set to lose midfielder Shaun Maloney in January with Everton lining up a cut-price move.

Roberto Martinez wants to bring Shaun Maloney to Goodison Park in January according to the Daily Mail.

The Spanish manager bought Maloney in 2011 while he was still in charge of Wigan Athletic but with the midfielder's contract expiring, Martinez is lining up a move to reunite with Maloney at Everton.

The 31-year-old Scotland international is being linked with January move to Everton ahead of his contract expiring at Wigan at the end of the season.

Maloney has gathered interest from the MLS but it is expected that the player would prefer a move back into the top-flight of English football.

Maloney has made over 300 professional appearances for clubs including Celtic, Aston Villa and Wigan.
