Cape Town - Liverpool have been dealt another injury blow after
reports suggest midfielder Lazar Markovic has suffered a muscle tear while away
on international duty.
According to the Mirror, Markovic was withdrawn within the first half an hour of Serbia’s 1-1 draw with Armenia on Saturday, and the prognosis does not look good for Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool.
The 20-year-old, who has struggled for form since arriving on Merseyside, is expected to be out of action for a number of weeks. He will join Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho on the sidelines, leaving Rodgers with just Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure as recognised senior central defenders.
Joe Allen and Emre Can also remain sidelined, while the Reds hope to have Daniel Sturridge fit for this weekend’s encounter against Queens Park Rangers.
