Marcos Rojo rose to prominence after starring for Argentina in the Soccer World Cup in Brazil but how many do you know about the new kid on the Old Trafford block.

Here are the NINE things you need to know about Marcos Rojo:

1. He is the fourth Argentine to play for Manchester United.

Rojo joins Carlos Tevez, Gabriel Heinze and Juan Sebastian Veron as an Argentinian Red Devil.

2. He will wear the number 5 jersey which was made famous by Rio Ferdinand.

Rio Ferdinand made over 300 appearances in the number 5 jersey for United.

3. Manchester United is Rojo's fourth club as a professional after playing at Estudiantes LP, Spartak Moscow and Sporting Lisbon.

Rojo joined Sporting in a deal worth £3.5 million after failing to settle at Spartak Moscow.

4. Rojo made FIFA's All-Star team after the World Cup in Brazil.

Rojo had a great World Cup and finished the tournament with a Castrol index rating of 9.5.

5. Rojo has scored just one goal for the Argentina national team which came in the national side's 3-2 win over Nigeria.

Rojo made his debut for the national side in 2011 but only found the net in 2014.

6. He is a versatile defender who can play left back or in the centre of defence.

Van Gaal moved for Rojo after feeling confident his new player can fit in well with both the 3-5-2 and the 4-4-2 formations.

7. He reportedly fell out with Sergio Aguero during the World Cup.

The pair apparently fell out when Rojo invited pop star El Polaco into the team's dressing room. El Polaco is the former partner of Aguero's girlfriend.

8. Louis van Gaal really likes him.

“He has ability, physical strength and a willingness to learn that means he has a very bright future ahead of him. He had a very strong World Cup and has been playing in Europe for a couple of years now. He is a very good addition to the team.” said the United coach.
