Cape Town - English giants Liverpool have announced they will play their first game in South Africa in 19 years when they face Ajax Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium at 20:15 in a post-season friendly on Tuesday, May 21.
"It will be fantastic for the club to return to South Africa after almost 20 years," said Billy Hogan, the chief commercial officer for Liverpool Football Club.
Hogan said the club was attempting to give back to its "rapidly growing" fan-base in South Africa.
"In the last eight months the number of South African fans visiting the club's website has doubled," he said.
"This visit is part of our off-season activity and shows our commitment to bringing the club closer to our fans all over the globe, no matter how far away from Anfield they may live."
Liverpool last visited South Africa in May 1994 when they faced Aston Villa, Cape Town Spurs and Kaizer Chiefs in an international soccer festival.
The fan-walk will be activated for the event and spectators can relive the excitement of the 2010 Soccer World Cup as they soak up the atmosphere.
Ticket prices range from R150 - R350 and will be available at all Computicket, Shoprite, Shoprite Checkers outlets and Cape Town Tourism Visitor Information Centres from Thursday, May 9.
