Liverpool - Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson said he will appeal Joe Cole's red card which forced the Anfield giants to play the entire second half of Sunday's 1-1 draw against Arsenal with 10 men.
Cole's English Premier League bow as a Liverpool player lasted just 45 minutes when he was sent-off by refreer Martin Atkinson for a scything tackle on Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny.
It was the England midfielder's first red card of his career.
"It would be a big loss if he is suspended," said Hodgson.
"He was devastated because it was his debut in front of a fantastic atmosphere and he was desperate to do well.
"We will look at the video again. Joe Cole has got an unblemished record in his career and he is not the guy who goes in for blood-curdling tackles.
"We might just be fortunate enough that an appeal would go in our favour."
French defender Koscielny, a summer capture from Lorient, was later dismissed himself for handball in the closing moments of the game.
