Cape Town - After impressing at the Soccer World Cup, Xherdan Shaqiri is next on Brendan Rodgers' transfer list as Liverpool look to bolster their squad ahead of the bumper 2014/15 season.
The Star reports that Liverpool have submitted a bid, which was not accepted, for the Swiss World Cup star Shaqiri.
Shaqiri has not had much game time at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich since his move in 2012 and may be tempted to make the move to Anfield.
Still just 22 years of age, Shaqiri shone for Switzerland at the World Cup and has attracted interest from Liverpool along with Serie A duo Juventus and Roma.
Swiss newspaper Blick claim that the Reds are now the favourites to sign the highly coveted midfielder.
Despite not accepting Liverpool's bid, it is believed that Liverpool are close to matching Bayern's valuation of the midfielder.
Shaqiri moved to distance himself from the transfer speculation by stating on his Facebook page: "It is the time of year when much is written, but as we all know, there is very little truth behind it."
Shaqiri's current deal with Bayern expires at the end of the 2015/16 season.
