Liverpool send Burnley down

London - Burnley were relegated from the English Premier League following a 4-0 home loss to Liverpool at Turf Moor on Sunday, bringing to an end their one-season membership of the top flight elite.

Burnley denied Liverpool, still chasing a Champions League place, a goal until the second half when Reds skipper Steven Gerrard scored twice in quick succession before Maxi Rodriguez added a third.

Ryan Babel made it 4-0 with a 90th minute goal.

Bottom of the table Portsmouth, deducted nine points for entering administration, have already been relegated.

Meanwhile Hull are on the brink of going down to the Championship league.

Even if they were to win both of their remaining games and West Ham lose both of theirs to leave the clubs level on 34 points, the Hammers have a superior goal difference which could only be overturned in Hull's favour by some extraordinary results.
