Liverpool could leave Anfield

Liverpool - The owner of Liverpool football club has admitted that the Merseyside team may have to leave Anfield for a new stadium.

Anfield has been home to Liverpool since 1892 when the club played Rotherham in their first game at the Stadium, but may not be for much longer if the capacity of the ground is not increased.

John Henry's Fenway Sports Group has been considering stadium options since buying the club in October last year and according to Henry the move is inevitable.

Responding to a fan urging him to keep Liverpool at its home of 119 years, Henry said "Anfield would certainly be our first choice. But realities may dictate otherwise. So many obstacles."

Anfield was initially home to Liverpool's local rivals Everton before the a dispute between the team and the stadiums owner John Orrel lead to Everton leaving the ground and Orrel forming a new club named Liverpool.

The stadium holds just over 45 000 spectators - a relatively small amount when compared to stadia such as Manchester United's Old Trafford  which has over 75 000 seats or Arsenal's Emirates Stadium which holds over 60 000 - meaning that Liverpool cannot raise as much revenue from tickets sales as their major rivals.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
