Cape Town - The return of Ivory coast duo Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony will kickstart Manchester City's title charge, says on-loan midfielder Frank Lampard.

While enjoying AFCON 2015 success with Ivory Coast, Toure's absence has severely dented the Citizens' chances of defending their English Premiership title.

Since Toure left for the continental showpiece event in Equatorial Guinea, City have won just one of their last six fixtures - including a shock exit in the fourth round of the FA Cup at the hands of Middlesborough.

But Frank Lampard believes Toure's return, and the arrival of new signing Wilfried Bony, will see the defending champions hopes of retaining their title boosted, according to the Daily Mirror.

"He’s a massive player for the club,” Lampard said.

“I could see that from afar when I was at Chelsea.

“You want him back in and hopefully that will give us a boost as a squad."

Bony, who scored 9 goals in his last 15 games for Swansea, joined up with his new teammates for the first time following his £25 million move to City and Lampard is delighted to have the striker part of the squad.

"Alongside Yaya coming back, we’ve got Bony arriving. We’ve seen what he’s been doing at Swansea and he’ll be a fantastic signing for the club.

"There’s an air of confidence about him and he’ll add to the squad.”

Manchester City could hand Bony his debut when Newcastle United travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The match kicks off at 19:30.
