Commentary by Carlo Petersen

17:25 - Full-time folks! Wow! What a game for City, who have made a big statement here this evening. If they keep this sort of form they will be very difficult to beat. Shameful stuff from Spurs though, who despite putting together some silky passes in midfield, just couldn't seem to find themselves in the last third of play. City move to fourth on table after this emphatic win!

17:23 - Spurs get in handed to them as Jesus Navas skips onto a long ball and slots past Hugo Lloris to make it six. AVB looks nauseous.

17:22 - It is! GOOOOOAAAAAALLLL!!!

17:20 - Fernandinho misses a sitter after finding himself unmarked just five yards out. The ball rolled straight to him and he totally fluffs his attempt on goal. It should now be 6-0.But wait....

On the chase: Man City defender Demichelis challenges Spurs striker Adebayour for the ball at the Etihad Stadium, where Spurs are suffering a humiliating defeat. (Pic: Twitter)

17:10 - Some excellent passing down the middle of the pitch sees the ball find Adebayour with a chance to score or square the ball to Dembele. He goes for glory but falls short. Wasted opportunity!

17:07 - Nasri comes off for Milner after Spurs man Sigurdsson won possession just outside the area and let rip from 30 yards, the low drive was taken comfortably by Pantilimon.

17:03 - Navas goes on a mazy run and City almost get sixth after Negredo rises to meet the cross. The header flies just over. Close one!

16:59 - Aguero gets standing ovation as he makes way for Garcia. City seem intent on standing on their lead. Which could be dangerous, or not.

16:58 - Dembele tries a low shot from 25 yards but Pantilimon makes the save at the right hand post.

16:54 - Villas Boas' experiment with two strikers has lasted all of 15 minutes. Soldado makes way for Sigurdsson and Dembele comes on instead of Paulinho.

'Hmmmm I think things might get a little uncomfortable for AVB.' - @GaryLineker

16:50 - City are looking in the mood to score more and with Spurs continuously losing possession in the middle third and putting the defence under pressure, AVB might quickly have to do some damage control here.

16:46 - Negredo gets his name on the scoresheet. Fernandinho played it to Negredo, who turned quickly and fired a scorcher into the top corner from the edge of the box. Spurs are getting a drubbing! AVB on his way out?

16:46 - GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!

16:45 - When it rains it pours! City have five!

16:42 - This game must well and truly over for Spurs now. Dawson got drawn down the field and Negredo feeds Toure in to acres of space behind the Spurs defence. He wastes no time and crosses to Aguero, who finished off the sublime move. It was a difficult chance but the Argentinian makes good of it and brings his tally to two this afternoon and ten for the season.

16:41 - City start where they left off thanks again to Aguero.

16:40 - GOOOAAAL!!!

16:40 - That's the fourth!

16:38 - City have replaced Nastasic with Joleon Lescott - more injury problems at centre back for Pellegrini? Oh dear!

16:38 - Lewis Holtby goes off, Emmanuel Adebayor comes on.

16:36 - The second-half is underway. Can Spurs find a way back into this one?

16:35 - TWEET:

'Started badly for Spurs and got worse. Passing awful. But how have City lost so often?' #pasoccer - @sistoney67

16:23 - PICTURE:

16:20 - It's halftime at the Etihad. City lead 3-0. Spurs don't know what hit them!

16:18 - Yaya Toure somehow loses the ball on the edge of the Spurs penalty area and City players smell blood as they seek a fourth. The big man is forced to foul Holtby and City get handed their first yellow card of the afternoon. Webb looked reluctant there. Ahem!

16:14 - Verthongen has a hack at Zabaleta and gets a booking. Play restarts and Aguero is blocked by Dawson and Webbo waves play-on, much to the ire of the crowd, who are roused into a frenzy of mumbled complaints and distant boos.

16:12 - Goal! Aguero scores to put City 3-0 up!

16:12 - City have another one!

16:10 - Another shocking Lloris clearance goes straight to Aguero who draws a save from the French keeper, Negredo scissor kicks the rebound towards the open net, Kaboul kicks the ball off the line but straight into his team mate for a comedy own goal.

16:06 - Negredo gets the goal after some ping-pong goalmouth action. The ball refusing to go in until it eventually ricochets in off Sandro. Was that an own-goal?

16:05 - City are two up!

16:05GOOOAAAAALLL!!!

16:02 - Aguero goes on another run leaving his markers for dead. His low cross seeks to find Negredo, but Lloris gets there first and claims it before the Spaniard can have a go.

16:00 - It's a very flowing, great open game at the moment with both sides attacking at will. There should be plenty of goals to come if things keep going this way.

15:57 - Great play by Aaron Lennon to control a deep cross on the far side of the penalty area and turn inside Fernandinho before delivering a low ball across the face of goal that is turned behind for a corner.  Pantilimon flaps at the set piece but gets away with it, just nearly anyway.

15:53 - PICTURE:

Quick fire: Jesus Navas' goal after 13 seconds is the joint-fastest in the BPL this season alongside Stoke's Asmir Begovic. (Pic: Twitter)

15:48 - Spurs have a freekick about 30 yards out on the right of goal. Vertongen is lining-up a shot. It come to nothing though. Tame effort easily scooped up by Pantilimon.

15:43 - And here City come again. Nasri looked clean through on goal there and was about to pull the trigger before being chopped down quite harshly by Sandro. The Brazilian played the ball though albeit from behind the Frenchman. Webb smiles naughtily and waves play on. Spurs off the hook again!

15:41 - Quite a frantic start to this one so far! City seem the more eager side though. A ball into the left of the Spurs penalty area brings Lloris out to shut the angle down. He does just about enough to prevent Navas scoring a second.

15:38 - City now find a way through at the other end with some delightful interplay. Lloris saves some face with a reflex save though. Aguero usually does better in a one on one situation. Could easily have been 2-0.

15:35 - Well latecomers to the Emirates will surely be frustrated after that! Spurs look to comeback now as they attack from the right. The ball across finds nobody home though and City can breathe a sigh of relief.

15:33 - Straight after the kick-off Aguero manages to force a save from Lloris and Navas is at-foot to tuck it away beautifully to scoop it into the top left-hand corner! Amazing!!

15:32 - City have scored after 15 seconds. Unbelievable!!

15:32 - GOOOAAAALLL!!!

15:31 - Right! Away we go then... what the...

15:31 - Man City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "We cannot lose points at home, it's the only way to recover the points we've lost away. At home we're playing really well, away we're not playing as bad as the results say. We have to study why, because it's not normal to have taken just four points from 18."

15:30 - Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas: "We have had a lot of players on international duty, the players that remained worked well during the ten day break and a couple of the changes reflect that. We've taken into account the fact that a lot of players have travelled and been involved in important matches. He (Emmanuel Adebayor) worked extremely well during the break, the timing is right to bring him back, he can give us a different option if we change the system."

15:27 - So here we go then, three minutes away from a match between two teams that have been wildly inconsistent so far this term. Man City have won five from five at home, scoring 20 and conceding just two, but have lost four of six away from home and sit ninth. Spurs are seventh and have scored just nine goals in 11 matches (which is the same as third from bottom club Fulham) and three of these goals have been scored from the penalty spot.

15:23 - Spurs' defence has been breached just six times, which bodes well ahead of a clash with free-scoring City. The Mancs have now fallen six points off the pace, but will feel that things could be much worse as there should still be plenty more to come from as the season progresses.

15:17 - Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has again been named on the bench for his side's clash today. The England international lost his place in City's starting line-up following a blunder in a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on October 27. He has now been named as a substitute for five consecutive club games. The England man played in their 2-0 friendly loss to Germany last Tuesday but it seems City manager Manuel Pellegrini has once again elected to use Romanian Costel Pantilimon for the visit of Spurs.

15:14 - Some background preview facts before the match starts: City boast an unblemished record at Etihad Stadium this season, with five outings bringing 15 points and 20 goals.

15:12 - Good day football fans, and welcome to what we hope will be an exciting clash between Man City and Spurs. May the best team win!
