The Daily Mail report that Liverpool are willing to keep Johnson at the club for two more years but only want to pay the defender half his current salary.
Johnson's future at Liverpool is in doubt after Liverpool reportedly offered the English defender a new two year deal at 50% of his current £120,000-per-week salary.
The former Chelsea defender is considering his options as he is hesitant to sign the deal which would dramatically reduce his stature at the club.
Johnson is free to open talks with interested clubs on January 1 and leave Anfield on a free on June 30.
