Cape Town - Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat says that just one win from their remaining five games is the target to ensure Premier League survival.

The Magpies have endured miserable form since the departure of Alan Pardew, and relegation has now become a concern for interim manager John Carver.

Six defeats in a row have Newcastle 14th in the league, seven points above the drop zone, but they think another three will to be enough to keep them in England's top division for another season.

"There are five games left and we must win one," said the Dutch defender. "I believe we can do it. We can't just say it - we have to do it now.

"Taking three points will be enough to be safe at the moment. That is our only focus at the moment."

Newcastle’s next opportunity to get at least one in the bag is against Swansea City at St James' Park on Saturday.
