James forced to auction mementos

London - Former England goalkeeper David James is to auction more than 150 shirts, shorts and footballs from his career later this month after being declared bankrupt.

Nicknamed " Calamity" following some high-profile errors, James nevertheless played for several top-flight clubs including Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City as well as appearing for Portsmouth in their 2008 FA Cup final win over Cardiff at Wembley.

The 44-year-old James was declared bankrupt earlier this year despite being estimated to have earned around £20 million from football.

Several British newspapers cited an expensive divorce from his wife Tanya in 2005, reported to have cost 3 million, as one source of James's money troubles.

The auction will take place online at hilcoind.co.uk, with lots being sold off from November 18.
