London - West Ham United co-chairperson David Gold put his foot in his mouth on Wednesday by welcoming new signing Pedro Obiang to the club with a Twitter picture of another player.
"I am delighted to announce the signing of 23-year-old midfield Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria. Pedro, welcome," wrote Gold, next to a photograph of Juventus centre-back Angelo Ogbonna.
Upon realising his error, Gold removed the tweet and re-posted the text of the message, this time accompanied by a picture of Obiang beside the pitch at Upton Park holding aloft a claret and blue scarf.
Gold then tweeted: "I've just spoke to Pedro and he sounded v excited to be here. He promised me that he'd learn to sing Bubbles (club anthem 'I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles') in less than a month!"
Obiang, a Spain Under-21 midfielder, is the first player to join West Ham since the east London club's former defender Slaven Bilic succeeded Sam Allardyce as manager on Tuesday.
