Grant work permit approved
2010-06-09 15:32
London - Avram Grant has been granted a work permit, allowing him to take over as manager of West Ham.
Grant agreed to a four-year contract with the Premier League club last week, replacing Gianfranco Zola. But the Israeli coach still needed approval from the Home Office of his work permit application.
The club says the permit was approved Tuesday, clearing the way for Grant to start the job officially.
Grant, a former Chelsea manager, moved to West Ham from Portsmouth.
Zola was fired after the club barely avoided relegation this year.
Co-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold hailed Grant's appointment as the "beginning of a new era."
Grant's first signing was former Aston Villa and Stuttgart midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger.
