Gerrard urges Sterling stay

Cape Town - Steve Gerrard believes Raheem Sterling has everything a player could want at Liverpool, and has urged his team-mate to remain at Anfield "for the next few years" at least.

According to Football411, the England international's future on Merseyside is seemingly in doubt as the Reds are in danger of missing out on a place in next season's Champions League, while they have already been relegated to the Europa League this term.

Real Madrid are also believed to be keen on luring the winger to the Santiago Bernabue, but Liverpool captain Gerrard believes it would be a mistake for the 20-year-old to depart so soon.

"I hope he signs a new contract at the club because I think this club is perfect for him, certainly for the next few years," Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo.

"He's going to play most weeks, the fans love him here.

"He can progress here and become a top, top player here so I hope the people around him give him the right advice because he should stay here.

"Raheem's got the potential to be top drawer for sure. He's got to keep learning, he's got to keep wanting it."
