Gerrard goes down memory lane

Cape Town - Steven Gerrard misses a particular time in his Liverpool career as he goes down memory lane.

The long-serving Anfield captain would probably have done anything to have Xabi Alonso next to him like old times - especially as they suffered a 3-1 loss to English Premiership champions Manchester City on Monday, August 25.

Gerrard took to his Instagram account for a 'Throwback' - on a Wednesday.

Gerrard is pictured alongside current Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso after they claimed the Champions League in Istanbul in 2005.

Liverpool were 3-0 down before Gerrard inspired the Reds come back with a headed effort.

From the 34-year-old’s official Instagram account:

Captioned: "Throwback with the pass master"

Is this just an early start to the #throwbackThursday or a hint to the Liverpool board to re-sign Xabi Alonso?
