Liverpool were defeated 3-1 by Manchester City in week two of the English Premiership and are looking to bounce back immediately when they travel to London.

Spurs have enjoyed a successful start to the English Premiership under new boss Mauricio Pochettino and will be looking to continue their winning ways when they host Liverpool. In fact, Spurs currently sit atop the League table, albeit on goal difference, having picked up six points from their opening two matches.

Gerrard acknowledges it'll be a difficult contest in north London according to liverpoolfc.com.

The midfielder said: "It's going to be very tough."

"Tottenham away is a difficult match. They've started the season really well, have a new manager and have their confidence and belief back.

"We'll have to perform at our maximum to get the result we want, but we're going to go there for three points and we're confident we can get them."

Gerrard is happy with the transfer activity of the club despite losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

"The manager has strengthened in other areas and we've also recently signed Mario Balotelli, so hopefully the new signings along with everyone who has been here for a long time can help show everyone there is life after Luis and we'll try and fight to try and be successful without him." added Gerrard.

Tottenham Hotspur host last season's runners-up Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday, August 31.

The match gets underway at 14:30.
