Cape Town - Former England great, Gary Lineker, has hailed Arsenal's capture of Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil on the English Premiership's deadline transfer day.

"Ozil is a great signing. Not because he's necessarily the kind of player Arsenal lacked, but more for the statement it made. He'll improve an already strong area of the team, but signing a genuine world class talent sends a message that Arsenal can compete again," Lineker said, according to the BBC website.
The summer transfer window saw the Gunners sign three additional players - striker Yaya Sanogo, midfielder Mathieu Flamini and goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.
