Fulham earn draw at Wolves

Wolverhampton - Andy Johnson stopped Wolverhampton escaping the relegation zone with a late equaliser for Fulham in a 1-1 draw at Molineux on Saturday.

The substitute striker scored for the visitors in the 80th minute, just seconds after coming on the pitch, to cancel out Scotland forward Steven Fletcher's 22nd-minute header for the hosts.

Wolves would have moved out of the bottom three with a victory. Thirteenth-placed Fulham are five points clear of the drop zone on 39 points, while Wolves are in deep trouble on 32.

Cottagers boss Mark Hughes watched the end of the match from the stands after reacting angrily to a booking.

His Fulham side started brightly, with Carlos Salcido bringing a good save out of the hosts' goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Moussa Dembele then tried a shot from distance that flew over before USA midfielder Clint Dempsey missed two good chances for the Cottagers.

Wolves punished them for the misses when Fletcher jumped to head in a cross from captain Karl Henry.

The hosts thought they had a penalty when Richard Stearman tumbled in the box under pressure from Dempsey, but he was ruled offside in any case.

Jamie O'Hara was guilty of a wild miss but hit the post in first-half stoppage time after turning in the penalty box.

After the break, former Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, making his first Fulham start, broke into the box but scooped his shot over the crossbar.

When Brede Hangeland was booked in the 56th minute for a challenge on Fletcher, Hughes was incensed and referee Michael Oliver sent him to the stands for his remonstrations with the officials.

Gudjohnsen set up Dempsey for a chance before being replaced by Bobby Zamora, while Johnson came on for Dempsey in the 79th minute.

The latter substitution had an instant impact, with Zamora playing a part.

Zamora beat Christophe Berra to the ball in penalty box and it broke for Johnson, who fired past Hennessey to salvage a point for the west London side.
