Fabregas signs for Barcelona

London - Arsenal midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, 24, will fly to Spain on Friday to complete his £36 million move to Spanish giants Barcelona.

According to The Sun website, he will be presented as a Barcelona player on Saturday and could even make his debut against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday.

Fabregas will travel with the Catalan giants' squad to Madrid ahead of the match.

His arrival was welcomed on Twitter by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, who tweeted: "He's finally here!!"

Barcelona players Victor Valdes and Gerard Pique on Friday said they were delighted that Cesc Fabregas is set to return to the club after eight years at Premier League club Arsenal.

Fabregas, who left Barca for Arsenal aged 16, is poised to rejoin the European champions for a fee of around 40 million euros (56.8 million dollars), including variables and objectives.

The long-awaited deal was expected to be announced later on Friday. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on Friday did not include Fabregas in his squad for the Premier League opener against Newcastle United.

"I think that today (Friday) is going to be a great day for the club. I think we are signing a great player, one made here, the kind of player liked by the coach and by the fans. He will quickly adapt to our playing system," said the goalkeeper Valdes.

"He (Fabregas) is one of the best midfielders in the world, and it will be a honour to have him in our team."

Defender Pique, for his part, tweeted on Friday in English: "Today is gonna be a great day! I'm a bit nervous."

Pique is one of Fabregas' best friends and, like him, returned to Barca after a spell in England - in his case at Manchester United.

According to the Catalan media, Fabregas will travel with the Barca squad to Sunday's Super Cup first leg away to Real Madrid, without being in the squad. But he will likely be included by coach Pep Guardiola for the return game on Wednesday

Arsenal open their 2011/12 season away against Newcastle on Saturday.
